As Janet Sanz, the Minster of Ecology, Urban Studies, and Mobility, has informed us, the division of the offer into five stages will enable the authorities to begin the construction on the tunnels in the first trimester of 2018 as planned, without delays. All infrastructure elements are expected to begin operating in the first trimester of 2021 – the period during which the tender for completing the final works will conclude. The estimated time frame for the overall construction process is 32 months.
The Glòries tunnels will be composed of two independent city tunnels with two-way traffic, with a total length of 957 meters.
The urbanization of the Clariana zone on Glòries square, which occupies a total of 45,860 square meters, will be the first part in the global CANOPIA URBANA project. The main objective of this project is to convert the square into a new space with an active city vibe. To this effect, the park lying nearby will compose a part of the new “green lungs” of Barcelona.
