The Barcelona mayor’s office has informed us that 19.8 million euros have been allocated from the city budget to support the initial stage of this construction.
In 2013, the government of the Catalonian capital broadcast an international contest for the design and urbanization of the free space in de les Glòries square. The result was the victory of the ambitious project, Canòpia Urbana. This is the project that will be implemented in the spring of the current year.
The first stage of the construction works will include the urbanization of a total of 45,860 square meters, in which the zone called, “La Gran Clariana,” a spacious and grassy hill, will stand out among other areas.
In addition, plans are underway to create special lanes for pedestrians and bicyclists that will connect the northern and southern parts of the park. The city authorities are also considering a playground area for children, a dog park, and a sports field that will be available for use by teams and individuals.
