With a total space of 3,000 square meters, the building was subject to a complete renovation and for the first time has received the BREEAM certificate testifying to the high quality of the restoration. According to the authorities of Barcelona, significant changes have modernized the building. New features include the expansive windows that ensure the natural illumination of the interiors and a water collection system that will be used to water plants.
This new library in Barcelona was named after Montserrat Abello, the renowned Catalonian poet. This establishment is envisioned as a “culture-maker”; that is, its objective is to promote cultural innovation and facilitate educational work. In the meantime, the library boasts an initial fund of 45,000 books.
